I got to chat with a hero of mine today. Our conversation will be a part of show 111. For the past 18 months or so I have been a supporter of Arsenal FC, a football (soccer) club in London. In fact, the colour scheme of the website matches the colour scheme of the club! In my journey to become a fan of the club I decided to immerse myself in all that I could find. The best thing I’ve found so far is the Arseblog and Arsecast, both of which are run my Andrew Mangan.
Andrew has a decidedly “Paul” kind of humor. I often find myself literally laughing out loud as I drive to the prison listening to his show. One of my favourite parts of the show is the frequent comedy bits he adds following the closing theme. Often done in the style of a noir film, he adds punctuation to the show with a quick laugh.
On a lark, I decided to reach out and see if he would be on the show. Being that he does a show for millions of listeners with content focusing on Premiere League Football and I do a show with literally dozens of listeners with content focusing on recovery and Jesus, it seemed a perfect(?) fit!
Andrew, being Andrew, said yes without hesitation. I have been on a cloud since his acceptance a few weeks ago. Things happen and schedules got fouled up, but this morning I was finally able to connect with him. It was magnificent. He was gracious and kind and made me feel as important as the biggest footballer on the planet.
I hope, someday, to be as magnanimous with a fledgling podcaster as he was with me. Thanks so much, Arseblog, for being on the show.
